 Learn To Sail in Koh Samui

Sailing Courses & Hobie Cat Rentals

For those who like to learn sailing, improve or warm up their previous sailing skills!

Samui Ocean Sports offers a wide range of various boat types to learn on. From the legendary Laser dinghy or the smallest beach cat ?Hobie Bravo? to Hobie 18, Hobie 21, or up to a 27 foot Bi- plane rigged catamaran, our newly build "Radical Bay 8000"!

 

 

Learn how to sail in the warm tropical surroundings of Samui where each hour of private instruction gives you a pleasures experience to remember and a great day out on the water!

For more traditional monohull sailing, we also offer instructions on our 26 ft. MacGregor, which is a perfect little yacht, fully fitted with easy handling features to get you quick and safe into the sport of yacht sailing.

Our professional team provides basic lessons, courses and assistance and we promise we?ll have you up and sailing in no time!

Lessons can be given in English and German language!

 

  

Basic instructions on Dingy?s and Beach cats can be given on an hourly basis.

 Beginner Sailing Courses 

 

  5 hours (Laser, Hobie cat) 5000 Baht/Person
  12 hours (Laser, Hobie cat, 26 ft yacht) 12000 Baht/person
  Sailing lessons for half or full day cruises on our MacGregor
   or Radical Bay Catamaran.
  Instructor fee  - Half day 2000 Baht/per boat
                             - Full day
4000 Baht/per boat

 

  

 

Course Programme

 

1.Introduction into the sailing sport:

 

a.) Different boat types, clothing, equipment, surrounding (open ocean, lakes,
     coast,)

b.) Weather; wind strength, wind directions, currents, storms, weather forecast,
     gusts, luv and lee, tides,

c.) Safety; safety equipment (live jackets, boots, gloves, flares, etc.), storms,
      lightning, swinging boom boat rightening, hand signs, reefing, in the tropics bring
      lot?s of water, sun protection, etc.

   

 

2. How a sailing boat moves:




a.) Windstream in the sails
     (aerodynamics)

b.) Real and apparent wind

c.) Sailtrimm in different positions
     (close reach, beam reach,
     broad reach, downwind running

d.) Weight, ballast, balance, buoyancy

e.) Keel, centerboards, rudders,

f.) Tacking, gypping

g.) Rightening a catamaran

3. Practical sailing

a.) Boat launching, start and return

b.) Practical sailing and boat handling

c.) Psychological aspects

d.) Basic traffic rules
